Public consultation on revised competency standards

21 Dec 2016

The Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (the Board) is calling for expressions of interest from occupational therapists, interested stakeholders and consumers to attend public focus groups on the review of competency standards for occupational therapy practice.

The current competency standards for occupational therapy graduates, the Australian Minimum Competency Standards for New Graduate Occupational Therapists (ACSOT) were developed by Occupational Therapy Australia in 2010 and established a five year review cycle.

The Board acknowledges the valuable work done to establish the ACSOT in 2010, and in collaboration with key stakeholders, practitioners and consumers the Board’s revised competency standards will build upon the existing standards for the profession.

The Board would like to engage practitioners to better understand the suitability and applicability of the draft revised standards across the breadth of occupational therapy practice. Public consultation will start on 16 January 2017 and information about the consultation will be available on the Board's website.

Focus groups in each Australian state and territory will also start from this date. The following focus groups are scheduled in early 2017:

  • Hobart, Tuesday 17 January 2017
  • Melbourne, Wednesday 18 January 2017
  • Adelaide, Wednesday 1 February 2017
  • Canberra, Thursday 2 February 2017
  • Perth, Wednesday 15 February 2017
  • Darwin, Thursday 16 February 2017
